As a follow up to the ASR Africa Widows Support Grant, awarded to One hundred widows earlier in the year, ASR Africa and its partner- the International Women’s Society (IWS) has conducted business management training for the beneficiaries.
This event became necessary in ensuring that the widows fully utilize the grant, streamline their operations, acquire the tools needed to efficiently manage their small businesses and drive success. The Chairperson of IWS Widows Trust Fund, Mrs Adebanke Adeola, praised IWS for the support earlier given the widows. She appealed to the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge given to them in their businesses and ensure that they succeed in their endeavors.

In his response the MD CEO of ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh thanked the Chairperson of IWS and by extension the entire IWS Management team for the support they are providing for women through their scholarship program, skills acquisition and the educational programs. He added that ASR Africa is always ready to provide not just monetary but technical support where this is required. Dr Ubon extolled the vision of Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of ASR Africa and the BUA Group towards sustainable development in Africa and added that the widow’s empowerment program is an outcome of that vision.
The event provided ASR Africa and its partner with the opportunity to conduct a physical verification of the beneficiary’s progress, provide grant expectations as well as offer business management training to the beneficiaries. Many of the widows expressed their satisfaction for the opportunity given them and promised to utilize the grant effectively. Since its set up in 1998, over 2,500 widows have benefited from the Widows Trust Fund. The widows are supported with tools and machines to start small scale businesses, award grants, and scholarships for their young children.
